Time-lapse photography

All I know about time-lapse photography (if this is the correct terminology) is that it looks great. I would love to make my own! So time for some brief research....

I thought I would try Twitter before consulting Google. I didn't get a response after using various #'s, so Google it was.

What do I need?
First off I found this site - seems pretty useful and has given me a clue, in terms of what I will need:
http://www.learntimelapse.com/time-lapse-photography-how-to-guide/

What camera?
The websites author uses a Canon 7D Digital SLR camera. A quick search later, this one on Amazon costs £877. So I won't be buying one of these.

Is there a cheaper way?
Next stop - what can I do with my phone? Can you get apps for this sort of thing? Are they any good?

Smart Phone apps:
So this website lists the top 5 time-lapse apps of 2013. Result! I might as well try out number 1. To cut further corners, I have gone for the free version.
"OSnap! Time-lapse & stop motion lite"

My phone has just died - so I will play around with the app over the next few days and see what I can make! If I get anywhere, I may just share my results! If any real/experienced time-lapse photographers stumble upon this post - please comment and share some wisdom below!
