Moor Market Sheffield, the Steel City's £18 million market

Sheffield's main market has recently moved from its old run down home at Castle Market, to a brand new £18 million home on the Moor, featuring around 90 stalls and 12 cafés.

Open Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 5.30pm

The Moor Market, Sheffield

Walking down the Moor on a Saturday morning it's clear to see the revived hustle and bustle around the new development.

The outside looks great and inside it's clear a lot of time and effort has been invested in creating a new welcoming and modern environment.

Wondering the Moor Market, Sheffield

It's interesting to observe the stalls and see which are proving to be most popular.

I was quite impressed by the beer shop,  bakers, size of the mussels and it's own food court.

Butchers offering 3 or 5 trays for £10 is great value and most produce beats that found in supermarkets both on quality and price.

There are a few bottle necks and some stalls had lengthy queues, making it difficult to see what everyone was queueing for.

There is a variety of stalls including:
Oriental - great for soy sauce and spices
Handbags
Bakers - difficult to resist!
Butchers
Fish mongers
Pet stalls
Phone shops
Places to get a hair cut or have your nails done
Arts and crafts
And moor! (Get it?)

Nigh time on the Moor, Sheffield

I spotted a few stalls with shutters down, it is a tempting place to setup shop.

For any locals, I would certainly recommend visiting. For those further afield I would recommend combining a visit with some of the other highlights of the city: tinyurl.com/sheff10

The old location was ideal for those using the city bus services. The moor location is inconvenient for anyone who catches the 52 or 120, but some extra exercise is a good thing!

I'm interested to see what happens to the old market location, hopefully it won't be left standing and unused.

Hopefully it will prove to be a worthwhile investment for city, it is quite impressive and I'd recommend a visit (if you are local) In terms of a market experience I'll rate it 3.5 out of 5.

Two of my favourite market experiences have been London Borough market (not far from the shard - I was wondering and found the market by accident!) and the main market in Barcelona (simply amazing) Both overload your senses and instantly make you want to share them with friends and family.
