This is one of my favourite restaurants and is an experience I would like to share with all my friends and family! It is worth the trip to Leeds just to eat here! Some people at work were talking about their favourite restaurants and this place sounded good. So I visited it with my girlfriend and we loved it! We have talked about it ever since and this is the 2nd time we have been. I think it is a good choice for my first review and will be tough for other places to beat!
Fazenda is a Brazilian steakhouse that is located near the train station, with views of the Leeds/Liverpool canal. There are two worthy mentions, the salad bar and the meat! For a restaurant that focus's on meat, the salad bar is probably the best salad bar ever! There is a risk of filling up on salad!
The salad bar includes mixed olives, sushi, stuffed vine leaves, salami, smoked salmon, pasta, potatoes to name a few and a wide variety of dips/sauces.
Then there is the meat! (The price and meats available depend if it is lunch/dinner - see website for details)
The meats include: cap of rump, fillet, sirloin, rib eye, rump, ribs, gammon, lamb, chicken, chicken hearts!, sausage, black pudding, pasta and fish. Sounds good right? (maybe not the chicken hearts). But here are some pictures - enough said!
And now for the twist!
You have your own Fazenda card on your table. If it's red - it means you have had enough - or are taking a break! Or if it is turned to Green - the Gauchos/waiters will come to your table and ask if you would like some of what is on offer. (The Gauchos walk the restaurant with the different meats on a regular basis)
The food is delicious and there is plenty of variety. If you take a liking to something you can ask for more to be brought out.
The Gaucho's do a good job and some are friendlier than others. There is also a Waiter who will make sure you have drinks/water and everything you need, even taking time to refill your glass.
The reason for not being 5/5 rating. On the first occasion we were sat behind a pillar and had to wait a while between visiting the salad bar and being offered any meat. For our first visit we felt a bit hidden/unnoticed.
The price is also quite high, we chose to go at lunch (£16.70 each) and only drink water (£3) to keep the cost down. It would be nice to visit in the evening and enjoy some red wine or a few beers - but this would result in quite a high bill! (Our 2 x lunches 2x waters came to £43)
But a plus side, is that there is no waiting time compared to a normal restaurant. You can sit down, grab some salad and it shouldn't be too long before the meat arrives. The service was much better on our 2nd visit.
The restaurant looks out on to a canal and some barges and is located in a peaceful area.
Overall - a unique experience with a Brazilian feel, some delicious food and one of my favourite restaurants. Highly recommended!
Again I would recommend travelling to Leeds just to try this place. You might want to combine the restaurant with:
- Leeds Royal Armouries
- Leeds Football Club / Elland Road
- Bierkeller (Authentic Bavarian Bar) - very German feel and the place to go for a stein of beer!
