Recovery Week consists of 6 days of "Core Cardio and Balance". But this is what it is really like...
Day 29 - Monday 26th August 2013
Having not seen any of this exercise, we were looking forward to it. Half hoping that it would ease off and give us a break for a week, the other half - thinking, hold on a minute - this is Insanity - it needs to live up to it's name! So we got ready, water and towels to the side and hit play....
The workout started with a new warm up - which was a bit of a surprise - we first joked about how we couldn't cope, but then shut up to concentrate and keep up!
The workout introduced a variety of new exercises - one of my new favourites being 8 punches before jumping 180 degrees and repeating. I was wrong in thinking it would be a break this week - back came the level 1 drills and moving press ups! It's going to be a long week....
This workout also introduced me to two new challenging/horrible exercises! "Hip flexer burn" and "Shoulder Burn". Hip flexer burn involves standing on one leg and working through a variety of 30 second exercises with your other leg. (your leg feels like burning jelly by the end!)
"Shoulder burn" helps close the workout - the shoulder exercises I don't mind, but holding a squat for that amount of time is currently impossible! For example - I had to come out of the squat with burning jelly legs after 2 of the 4 exercises! How - do they endure this on the dvd?! Now I know what to expect, hopefully I will improve tomorrow! (Same again all week)
After Insanity I decided to do a few weights - depending how I feel tomorrow, I might keep this up all week.
Day 30 - Tuesday 27th August 2013
Same routine as yesterday and so quite straight forward! Today I performed better in the level 1 drills and kept up with the DVD. I also matched the DVD on the "Hip Flexer Burn" - although I wouldn't want to do these any longer than necessary! Hopefully by the end of the week I will be able to match the "Shoulder Burn". I can do the shoulder exercise, but I simply can't hold a squat for that long!
Although no pictures - an indication of progress so far, some recent measurements:
12th Aug to 25th Aug:
- Chest: - 1"
- Stomach: -1"
- Hips: 0
- Thigh: - 1/2"
- Arm: + 1/2"
- Bottom: - 1 3/4"
Day 31 - Wednesday 28th August 2013
Due to other plans we ended up doing Insanity first thing this morning. I felt quite tired throughout the workout and can feel the burn from some of the new exercises throughout my body! (Thighs, shoulder and back). I'm hoping to find a body fat scale today or sometime this week - this will help show progress compared to a reading a few weeks/months ago.
I finally managed to hold the "Shoulder burn" squat for the duration of the exercise - and it burned! lol
Day 32 - Thursday 29th August 2013
Same again! But I had much more energy compared to yesterday. The workout has been getting easier as the week goes by. I managed to keep up with the video in all exercises and felt good for doing so. I'm starting to look forward to the 3rd fitness test on Monday.
The visitor counter continues to rise - feel free to comment or ask questions. (It's all one way communication at the moment!)
Day 33 - Friday 30th August 2013
Core Cardio & Balance once again. Not much of a difference to yesterday's entry. But I have purchased a tennis sweat band. I think it was a wise £3 investment - it has stopped me from dripping sweat everywhere!Day 34 - Saturday 31st August 2013
Enjoying pizza and wine whilst watching Bayern Munich v Chelsea last night, made Insanity this morning quite tough! This was the last Core Cardio & Balance for a while. This workout seems to have had an impact on my knees - but hopefully the rest day and moving on to different exercises will help. Both of us have noticed an improvement in the tougher exercises throughout the week. I will enjoy the rest day tomorrow, feel confident for the fitness test on Monday, but slightly nervous about moving on to the MAX workouts!!!
