Day 36 and the start of the MAX workouts!
Okay so to start today was our 3rd Fitness Test. (A fitness test on transfer deadline day! But sadly I'm not moving to Real Madrid!) Once again I have improved in almost all areas of the test. Comparison of results:
Running
I think it's worth noting that I went for a 7km run yesterday (rest day), I haven't been for a run since I started Insanity and so was keen to see the impact on my usual route/time. When I set off I felt as though I had to hold myself back from picking up the pace (great!) but I didn't want to push my luck. Sure enough towards the 4k mark my calves were aching (the route is very hilly but not normally an issue). Considering I haven't been out running for weeks - I'm glad that I completed it in around my usual time.
Has Insanity made a difference to my running?
Yes! Energy wise I felt great and the big hill at the end of the run was easier than ever! After a few more runs my calves will be fine. I then hope to finally beat some of my PB's (Personal Bests).
Max Interval Circuit
So we did the fitness test, then had a 10-15 minute break to drink water and catch our breath. We then loaded the workout and pressed play (with no sneak peaks of what was to come)
The first thing I noticed was that the exercise was an hour (longer than all workouts before!)
To summarise - this workout was exhausting! Shaun T has taken it to a new level! It has taken me back to the early days! I can't keep up with some of the exercises and end up collapsing on the floor. Even the warm up is hard work!(Jogging, straight arm jumping jacks, heinsman, skip jumps)
The workout itself introduces a lot of new exercises and some just make you swear at the TV!
I'm looking forward to the new challenge of MAX workouts - but it is going to be tough! Hopefully now that we have increased the tempo - this will speed up the results. We are slightly dissapointed that after exercising almost every day for 36 days that we haven't had bigger results! We have improved throughout the fitness tests, but I am now heavier than my start weight!
Body weight: Increased - initially dropped 4 or 5lbs but now 2lbs heavier than my start weight
Inches: Lost up to 1 1/2" in some places!

Day 37 - Tuesday 3rd September 2013
"Max Interval Plyo" - this is by far the toughest workout so far and one of the most physically demanding things I have ever done! This is Insane!
Yesterday took it do a different level and I started today's workout with aching knees and lower back. I am starting to feel like a tank - my arms feel really strong and I feel as though I am in good shape.
This workout introduces a number of new moves - not the correct names but hopefully you get the idea:
- Level 3 drills (16 reps this time! 16 pushups, 16 runs in plank position, jump up, repeat)
- Squat push-ups - harder than they look!
- Side pushups - I don't think I get them yet. Should do better next time.
- Pushup then jump to crouch and back down - I'm getting there - the guy on the DVD at this point is a machine!
- 180 squat jumps
I physically could not keep up with this workout at times and got through two bottles of water during the hour session. At some points I could have easily collapsed to the floor in exhaustion! We expect some aches and pains tomorrow. Not sure what to expect tomorrow....
Day 38 - Wednesday 4th September 2013
It is difficult to write about today - it was so tiring it is hard to remember what happened! Today was "Max Cardio Conditioning" - a 50 minute workout, but essentially 30mins of pure hell! I will have to rewatch some of the DVD to remember the specifics.
The aim of the workout is to increase your endurance and to keep your heart rate high - I would say mission accomplished!
I can feel I have been worked to the bone, I'm left feeling ravenous and weak! It has brought back memories of finishing a rugby match, and then wanting some food before crashing out to recover.
I think once we have completed Insanity - this will be the workout to return to, if we really want to push ourselves.
The plie stretches/squats are memorable as they set my legs on fire - my legs were shaking like crazy towards the end!
Jump and punch then squat and punch is a challenge, along with the various press up and plank position exercises.
Holding a high plank and then alternating punches with each hand is one of my favourite routines, it is also a good challenge to end the main workout. It is great to have reached Day 40. Quite a busy weekend ahead, but will fit in day 41 and have certainly earned the rest day!
I have bought a copy of Mens Health for the first time. I think it is worth pointing out that an article on the "Elite Forza" - Italian security professionals shows 4 of their workouts, two of them are in Insanity! Maybe there is something Shaun T is not telling us....
Day 39 - Thursday 5th September 2013
Today was the first time we have done the "Max Recovery" workout, which consists of lots of slow stretches and push ups!The plie stretches/squats are memorable as they set my legs on fire - my legs were shaking like crazy towards the end!
Day 40 - Friday 6th September 2013
"Max Interval Circuit" - After 20 or 30 minutes when I reached the power punches it felt as though I had been shot by a tranquilliser! I couldn't help but move slowly. It is difficult to start some of the exercises at the same time as the DVD as I am exhausted from the previous one.Jump and punch then squat and punch is a challenge, along with the various press up and plank position exercises.
