Modern meets traditional dining experience
A selection of Sheffield's top food bloggers were invited to a special preview night for the new look Napoleons Owlerton Casino & Restaurant.
The venue has recently invested in a £2million refurbishment and extension, which will be officially opened on Thursday 16th October 2014.

There was no problem parking as Napoleons Owlerton has its own large car park, the venue looks great from the outside and was worthy of a few photos. Staff opened the doors for us upon arrival an we were greeted at the entrance by George Forsyth - General Manager. George was keen to explain the recent changes and to point out some of the main features of Napoleons. The roulette tables looked great as we made our way towards the bar and dining area.

The bar offered a nice selection of drinks, I quite enjoyed the bottled Brooklyn beer and Peroni on draft. The bar also stocks a range of guest ales and beers including Erdinger (a favourite of mine), Fuller's Honey Dew, Fruli Strawberry Beer & Worthington's White Shield.
We were taken to see the new extension, which includes the first outdoor gaming terrace outside the capital.
The extension is quite impressive and is a smokers paradise. It is stylish, has heaters to keep you warm, a roof to keep you dry and a number of seats, tables and games. With impressive opening hours, a seated restaurant and a variety of food - depending on the night of the week - you could easily spend a lot of time here!

Restaurant
The 60 seater restaurant looks fantastic. I really like the glass
dividers, which help keep the dining area enclosed, but also offers
views down and across the casino floor.
Lisa Coy the Restaurant Manager, talked us through the October menu, I'm impressed to see that the menu changes each month.
We were fortunate to try a variety of starters, select a single main and then were treated to a variety of desserts.
Starter
The starter selection consisted of: curried parsnip cappuccino soup, black pudding won-ton, goats cheese and fig bruschetta, prawn cocktail.
Quite a few other guests agreed that the "curried parsnip cappuccino soup" was delicious, we even asked for a copy of the recipe. "winter is coming" and it is soup season! I tend to stay away from black pudding, but I must admit I was impressed by the black pudding won-ton starter. The goats cheese and fig bruschetta was well presented, along with the prawn cocktail - which was served in its own jar on a bed of lettuce.

It was difficult to resist the beef steak, so with the intention of
trying something different - I chose the grilled swordfish steak (pictured below), confit
of tomatoes and mediterranean vegetables, salsa verde. Again the meal
was well presented, the other guests meals looked great too. For either
steak option, I think Napoleons offer good value for money. Both Chef
Lee Swords and Restaurant Manager Lisa Coy had highlighted the
flexibility and customisation available. Lee advised if you have any
special dietary requirements, or would prefer something different -
simply let him know. Some regulars even bring their own hot sauce, which
the chef happily uses to create them a spicy dish!

After a short break, we proceeded to sample a selection of desserts. We were treated to chocolate brownie, apple and plum crumble and ginger cake with butterscotch sauce. I have learnt a lesson here. If I only had one option, I would have opted for the chocolate brownie. But amongst the trio, it placed third in my ranking! The apple and plum crumble was sharp, sweet and a great treat. The ginger cake was worthy of a great British bake off and worked well with the accompanying sauce. In sum, compliments to the chef!
The dine in style package has caught my eye and I think it offers great value. There are also other promotions, for example where dinners can spin a wheel to receive a discount off the bill.
Casino
So after being well hosted, treated to great food and drink in a stylish new setting, it was time to hit the casino floor and make use of our free £5 chips. The casino staff were more than happy to explain the games, which may seem daunting to anyone who is new to them.

In summary, Napoleons Owlerton is a safe bet! It offers a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, the venue looks great and the food - well, it is worth going to the casino, to eat at the restaurant.
