Having stayed in Sheffield beyond my student years, Mirpuri Dhera is my most visited restaurant in Sheffield / South Yorkshire. It is a restaurant I have dragged friends to and continue to recommend to others. Almost to the point of singing and dancing that it is Mirpuri Dhera day.....

Once you have got the hand of pronouncing Mirpuri Dhera, it is an Indian / Pakistani / Kashmiri all you can eat buffet. Hold your initial thoughts, it is authentic, amazing value for money and most importantly delicious. We have almost given up on trying other Indian restaurants in Sheffield, because this is the one to beat. Although Urban Choola is also very good (London Road).

Food

Food....so much food! Mirpuri Dhera is like a journey, I tend to begin with fresh poppadoms. You help yourself, you are then overwhelmed and spoilt for choice at the pickles, sauces and overall salad bar selection. You have to try it for yourself. There is possibly too much choice. The food looks and tastes very fresh, is well presented - but don't over do it! The journey has just begun!

Next stop - The Golden Pots.

There are at least 20 Golden Pots, which sit above bunsen burners. Inside will be some of your Indian favourites as well as the unknown and sometimes spicy..... I tend to go for a plate of meat and sides. Opting for chunks of chicken tikka, kofta kebabs, chicken wings, bhajis, samosas. It is serve yourself, all you can eat, but high quality food. This is why I continue to return, I pick my favourites then pick up some fresh naan bread. Perfection! (The Chef once made me a fresh peshwari naan - it was amazing! Please offer this as standard!)

Next stop - some actual curry! I tend to go for some rice and then try a few helpings of different currys. It is quite interesting to open up the posts and to see what is inside. My mouth is watering now. If you want to avoid anything too hot, just ask the staff and they will recommend dishes to you or answer any questions.

The final stop, if you have room, is dessert. Again, spoilt for choice. You can either go for more traditional Indian desserts, or stick with the classic jelly and ice cream. There is a variety of ice creams available. Oh, did I mention you can help yourself to slices chocolate or carrot cake. So many of my favourites, all under one roof.

Drinks

Mirpuri Dhera doesn't serve alcohol. Sometimes it would be nice to have a beer with a delicious curry, but some jugs of water and delicious food is fine. My one pet hate about eating out is being overcharged for drinks anyway.

Design

Mirpuri Dhera is very eye catching from the outside. It almost looks as though you have arrived at an Indian Palace. The Mirpuri Dhera sign is well designed and really stands out. There are even shisha pipes and bed on the front patio area in the warmer months. It is just a great place. There is free parking at the back of the restaurant.

Atmosphere

It is a relaxed atmosphere, sometimes it can provide an opportunity to not feel rushed and to enjoy your food and conversation. Whereas other times they may be hosting an Indian Wedding, with plenty of happy guests and bright colours.

Service

The staff are friendly, will take away any used plates and cutlery quite promptly, they will make sure you have enough water/drinks throughout your meal. One staff member even brought me out some fresh naan breads, without me having to ask. You can help yourself when you are hungry, there is no need to try and catch the eye of a waiter or waitress or wonder how much longer your food may take.

Value for money

Exceptional value for money. Some may joke - the more you eat the more you save. You could not have this much choice from a restaurant or takeaway, without spending a fortune. I am genuinly impressed, and thats before the special promotions and competitions that can be found via Facebook. To celebrate their anniversary, the fee per customer was reduced to £6. Amazing.
