Baan Thai Review Sheffield

Location: Sheffield UK
Website: N/A

Having passed Baan Thai countless times and wondering if it is any good, I thought it was about time to pay a visit and see. The Baan Thai website seems to have gone offline, so I did wonder if the place was still in business!

I found a number on Google and sure enough, managed to book a table!

Baan Thai, Sheffield, UK

The restaurant is just off London Road and has a car park just behind it - v.useful and free!

Inside we were soon greeted and shown to our table. There appears to be seating upstairs, via a spiral staircase, probably a nightmare after a few drinks, especially for any ladies in high heals! Luckily we were seated in a nice quiet corner.

The place has a nice atmosphere with friendly staff. There is plenty of choice in the menu - it took a while for both of us to finally decide.

I opted for the ribs and wasn't disappointed, they look good don't they? The salad outnumbered the ribs, I quite like the carrot art as well! My girlfriend chose deep fried seafood, which consisted of mussels, prawns and fish in a light batter. Nom.

Baan Thai: Ribs

Baan Thai: seafood starter selection

For mains I went for a three sauce seafood dish and some Thai steamed rice. My girlfriend went for seabass, chili and garlic - I tried some and was instantly jealous! It was one of the tastiest things I've had in a long time. If I returned, I'd pick this dish. The staff made sure we were ok for drinks and water throughout our meal.

Baan Thai: Saucy seafood

Baan Thai: seabass

There was quite a wait between finishing our main and having the plates taken away, we also had to ask for the bill, otherwise we may have been left to it all night. It is quite nice to take your time and not feel rushed.

We opted for desserts, we've never been to Thailand, but are certainly impressed with some of the creative dishes we have tried before. Just look at this:

I chose a trio of ice cream, the mango sorbet in the middle was amazing! My girlfriend had Thai custard and loved it.

Overall we had a very nice meal. However the tables were quite close together so we were almost included in another couples date. Some of the restaurant could so with a lick of paint and I they really should get the website back online! They could be losing a lot of business without it. We have visited some other Thai restaurants which perhaps outclass Baan Thai. I'm glad we tried it and would suggest the restaurant to others. There are quite a few restaurants making a name for themselves in Sheffield, I think we would visit these before making a return visit to Baan Thai.
